I'm signing up for a 5k run called the River Bank Run on May 12, 2012. This will give me a goal and a reason to exercise. I'm doing a "Couch to 5k" workout plan to work my way up slowly, it breaks each workout into easy 20 minute chunks.
It's never too early to prepare for bikini season!

Gym babe
Hi pals,
I like your food diary, Mom. Did you start http://www.myfitnesspal.com/? You can then do the app on your phone and its easy to log foods, get calories, and it sets up goals for you. You also log your exercise on there too.
Today I finally went to the gym, Fitness 19. Of course, I went at peak time-5pm on a weekday the first week of the New Year. It wasn't too bad though.
My starter workout:
6 mins on the elliptical (it's hard!)--burned 50 calories
Both gyn-ie machines to work the thighs --3 sets of 12
One leg lift machine--3 sets of 12
Back on the treadmill for 25 mins--burned 100 calories
Not a great workout but all exercise is good. I felt my thighs and tummy jiggle all day at work, don't like!

walking
Good morning! I just got back from a new activity for me....mall walking. I looked at Somerset's webpage and it says that each floor of the north side is 1/3 of a mile. I walked 2 laps of each level! There were so many people today and of course they all looked older than I. It was quite pleasant in there with lots of activity, pretty stuff to look at in the windows and nice music.
I decided that once a week I could treat myself to something in the mall. Today was a big treat, and I won't splurge each time. I am the proud owner of a beautifil pair of red leather gloves! They were on sale at Nordstrom and they only had one pair left in my size in red....FATE!
I plan on listing what I eat each day. No one else has to do this, but I feel it might keep me honest. Hope to post again soon.

Happy New Year
Happy New Year! It's 2012 and a new year is a wonderful reason to make changes. I'm excited we are starting this blog to create a support system for each other. Let's use this as a way to post what we're doing to create new lifestyles-recipes for good food, exercise plans, a log of physical activities, websites or tools to check out, things that inspire us, tips to improve our lifestyles, or anything else you can think of.
Through a new website I found called zenhabits, I learned about FITOCRACY. I sent you both invites to join this website. It makes fitness into a game where you earn points and rewards. I'm just getting started learning about it but you can follow people who sound interesting or inspirational. I think we should try it.
I'm also reading about how to live a simpler, less cluttered lifestyle through an ebook you can download onto your iPad or iPhone at http://zenhabits.net/effortless/. There is a "suggested price" to download it but you can change the price to $0.00 in the checkout and "pay it forward" if you feel so inclined. So far I like it, although he has an interesting view on goals. He says not to create goals because if you don't achieve them you will be let down and feel like a failure. How he explains it kind of makes sense, if you plan for something you end up there. If you don't plan for something, you can end up farther than you thought or in a totally different spot than you imagined.
Okay, that's all for now. What are your suggestions for doing this? Should we post things like 'Before/After' pictures or pounds lost? Successes and what we want to work on?
Love you guys and looking forward to your posts.
Hearts,
Abbey
